We “hired” a car and drove to Phillip Island to do some penguin watching.
Churchill Island
This little island next to Phillip Island was a picture perfect little farm. We wandered around and breathed in the fresh air and thoroughly enjoyed being away from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne.
The little lavender field smelled so good and made me wish I had a lawn chair, a good book, and a free afternoon to spend just taking it all in.
Showing our city-slicker children some animals.
Quietly contemplating life. Not really. Mom told them to go sit on the bench and hold still.
Cape Woolamai
We went on a little walk along the beach. Poor Alex was feeling very apprehensive about the water and stayed as far away from it as he could.
The Nobbies
I didn’t think anything could top the views that we saw while we were in Sydney, but The Nobbies was breathtaking! We walked along a board walk and admired the green hills, bright blue water, and the dark rocks. There is just something so mesmerizing about the ocean.
Penguin Parade
The highlight of our Saturday was watching the little penguins waddle their way out of the water and up into their burrows. No cameras were allowed so all I have is a couple of mediocre cell phone pictures from while we were waiting.
We got there about an hour before sunset to find a spot on the bleachers and wait for the sun to go down. Once it got dark, the little penguins started making little squawking noises and then would waddle out of the water. Some would get scared and hurry back to the water and others would make a run for the rocks. It was amazing how well they could climb with their short little legs. As we walked back to our car, we could see them climbing into their burrows on the hill. So cool to be up close to so many penguins.
