One of our Melbourne bucket list items was the Great Ocean Road and it did not disappoint!
Driving on the left side of the road was an adventure in and of itself. It just felt so strange! There was always a brief moment of panic when we’d come around a bend in the road and wonder if you and the car coming toward you were on the correct side!
The road followed along the coastline of southern Australia and was filled with breathtaking views!

I lost track of how many beaches we pulled over at. Andrew managed to gather quite the collection of snails. My favorite spot was Apollo Bay. There was a fun park for the kids, a beautiful beach, and tons of surfers to watch.
There was a short rain forest trail that we hiked along that was so pretty!
We had lots of fun spotting wildlife on the drive. We saw kangaroos, cockatoos, koalas, and lots and lots of sheep.
The main thing we saw was the Twelve Apostles rock formations. I think there are only 8 “apostles” left due to erosion. Andrew was really disappointed though because he was expecting it to be like Mount Rushmore and see actual figures carved in the rock. Even though they didn’t look like people, the view was amazing!
We watched the sun set at “London Arch” and then called it a night and headed back to Melbourne. Views like these are making us feel a little sad to have to go back to Texas!
